KIP Ukelele – Our “Junior Music Makers”

Written by Valerie Teo, on 24-01-2010

Indeed, it was a joyous occasion for the children @ Kidz-in-Praise as they celebrated the birth of Christ on 20 December 2009 (KIP Christmas Party).  The children enjoyed a time of singing, movie and games together with their friends and some children from the Primary 4 follow-up group.

We praise God for our “Junior Music Makers” of KIP.  For the first time, after much hard work and perseverance, a team of KIP children dedicated a medley of Christmas songs to the Lord on their ukuleles!  The children practiced on Sundays, during noon, for several weeks and a small group even met at Aunty Regina’s place each Wednesdays for intensive practice.

The children persevered through the practices despite painful fingers –the result of pressing the chords on the ukulele strings! I asked Charmaine Song, (Primary 4) about her experience playing the ukelele for the children’s Christmas celebration, ‘I like the ukelele, though my fingers do hurt. It is not difficult to pick up this instrument, as the chords are quite easy to remember.  Maybe because I learn the piano so I could pick up ukelele easily.  I enjoyed all the uke sessions in Aunty Regina's house!  I feel happy to celebrate JESUS's birthday in this way.’

All thanks and glory be to our LORD as we learn to serve Him by blessing others with all that He has blessed us with!
