2009 is coming to an end and I would like to share some thoughts with you to an eventful year to a close and to usher in the New Year with Overnight Prayer Meeting.
With Chai Hwa moving to Japan for missions work, the great work he had done had to be continued by everyone, and our CYM programs continued to be on track. Thank God for Pastor Anthony joining us, for the many hours he had spent with me on CYM! UMAD 7 Camp was a success, very positive experience with committed ICs, dedicated UMAD Advisors and vibrant youths. Mid-Year leaders’ retreat was an important consolidation moment. Bible Quiz was a fun-filled success. Restful year-end-retreat; as if soaring on wings like eagles. Amazing Christmas Chill! What a “posh-y” showcase of talents! Praise God for all these made possible because of the love and dedication from all of you and the continued strong support from your families. I wish to thank you for your contributions and your families for the support they have given.
When I took over Chairman of CYM this year 2009, one of my priorities was to ensure that our ministry can go the long haul, like a marathon runner, and the need to build team resonance to position our ministry for growth in God’s timing. After discussion with Pastor Anthony and Liang Fu, there will be some strategic challenges ahead for Chrysalis Youth Ministry and our continued service must depend on how well we continue to walk close with God individually as well as a ministry. As CYM, our vibrancy must be balanced, anchored in Christ. Mentoring continue to be the key for developing our leaders and helpers to rise up to the occasion when necessary to meet these challenges.
Staying close to God
I believe that it is important to ensure that CYM factors in the necessary processes to ensure that our leaders continue to stay close to God without being overloaded. We need to embrace balance in our lifestyle so that we can serve God the long haul without burning out. Our vibrant service as an outflow of our lives must be wisely balanced. The CYM committee have also been working extensively to put in the right system to ensure that leaders and helpers are taken care of. We must inculcate a habit of balancing our service not just in church, but at home, in school, or at work.
The next generation Youth Ministry
We look forward to a next generation of Youth Ministry, led by God, initiated by youths. To provide our youths with more opportunities to grow and serve, we have also started youth-initiated events, and opened up other areas where youths can be ambassadors to KIP. We will also be inviting our younger leaders to join us in the Business Committee so that they will be groomed early. You will also notice that we will also be making adjustment to allow more youths to take the lead for the work in the various Ministry Teams. I expect the plan for this to be finalised soon. This is one step in planning and preparing the next generation of leaders for CYM.
One Family
We must encourage a culture of openness and trust in sharing our spiritual journey, in good times and in challenging times. We are one family, and sharing our journey teaches us that above all, God is in control, and allow the body of Christ to encourage each other.
Some Personal Reflections
I must confess that it was not an easy year for me to learn to trust God and let Him guide me through the ups and downs that many might not know. Through it all, I know my God is Jehovah Jireh, my provider! Introducing many of these changes were harder than I had thought. Changes which affect people and structures are very complex. I am constantly amazed by the many talents we have in CYM and the great potential as a ministry. I have learnt that very often, there is no one-size-fits-all solution and we need to address the diverse challenges, individual concerns creatively with love. Leadership renewal in CGs and Ministry Teams will be complex and need to be communicated early for your frank feedback and suggestions. Understanding your points of view help us make better informed decisions.
On behalf of CYM Business Committee, I would like to thank all of you for a memorable 2009, and wish you and your families the God’s favour in the New Year ahead.
“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8
After a great time in the UMAD7 Camp, i was quickly on my way to London to do a presentation at the conference, quite unprepared. By now, i had just completed my part. Praise God, all is well with His blessings. This brings the verse below to mind.
2 Cor 12:9: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
In the areas where we can’t, God can. Also, seeing how God work through the UMAD7 camp, i am glad how many of us are challenged again to be in the world but not of the world, being mastered by God's Word.
I would like to challenge all Chrysalians to continue to spend time with God and His Word. And let us all obey the Word, as we are in this busy world, with so many things calling our attention, attempting to lure us away from Christ. This month of june will be a great month of reflection following the silence and solitude segment in UMAD7. Let’s not be so quick to rush into busyness...take sabbath moments and let our Master speaks to us. Why should we be worried or anxious right?
1 Pet 5:7: Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Finally, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ,
Heb 12:1: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
let us persevere as victorious Christian with the Word in the world. As well as encouraging our fellow laborers in this race!
For most of us, the days leading to Good Friday are marked with contemplation and gratitude. We are reminded by how Jesus Christ suffered and died for our sins so that we can in turn have eternal life. "Truly He is the Son of God."
"Truly He is the Son of God." Jesus’ disciples were certain of this too. These were the words of those who fell asleep keeping watch while Jesus prayed in Gethsemane the night before his death. Judas betrayed Him and handed Him over to the Roman authorities. “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you”, said Peter who denied Jesus three times.
Have we been “sleeping” in our walk with Jesus? Have we “betrayed” Jesus by succumbing to our temptations? Have we “denied” Jesus in times of trial? Let us contemplate upon these questions before we ask ourselves whether we truly believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

As a youth, hanging out with friends, watching Youtube, playing the Wii, shopping and a host of other activities seems to fill up your time, space and energy. Some do it to kill time, others simply hate being “lonely”. In our Asian culture, spending time alone may also be viewed as aloof and unfortunate... remarks like “poor thing, she’s eating lunch alone” or “he’s always alone, he got no friends or what?”
So, where does solitude and “time alone” feature? I would say of paramount importance!
An intentional personal retreat is as essential as breathing & eating as it offers respite and withdrawal from busyness, from people & noise. Getting in touch with yourself and God your creator, is important to build upon the simpler life of restfulness and God-given rejuvenation. Even Jesus took time to be alone.
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35
Ever complained that you’re not hearing God or that your prayers have not been answered? Have you made the time to be in solitude with God and given Him the time and space to speak into your life? Do you just rush headlong into your prayer requests and forget that solitude is time with God and He wants to enjoy communicating with you too? While you may worry that you will get lonely or distracted during solitude time, in essence, it can be wonderfully renewing in the soothing moments of simplicity as you experience God’s closeness as it reenergizes you.
As we continue in an attitude of prayer and reflection during this season of Lent, let us take action to make time for solitude with God. Mark off half-an-hour to spend in solitude this week, try taking a walk in a quiet but safe place, penning your thoughts in a journal, or starting to get in the mood by playing Christian music on your Ipod and then expand this time as you begin to enjoy your solitude time.
Enjoy your solitude time!
Do refer to the March announcements posted by Linus on the web below. Remember to keep the events in prayer.
Greetings in the blessed name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
Over the recent Lunar New Year, a question that has featured prominently in my interactions with family, friends and colleagues is how one can joyously celebrate the Lunar New Year when the reality of an ailing global economy and many people losing their jobs or fearing for their livelihood, stares us point blank in the face.
I cannot pretend to fully empathise with those who may be feeling the full brunt of a world economy gone berserk. What I do humbly believe is that someway, somehow, the Lord is in control, and as Christians we have in our hearts a hope that we can hang onto regardless of the times we face. In such unprecedented times, we can cling onto our precious relationship with our Lord Jesus, and it is in this context that we can respond to the above question by saying ‘Yes, we can, because we have Christ!’
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
Let’s pray and ask the Lord to show us who we can help in this crisis, whether it’s by offering friendship, prayer or financial assistance. If we are struggling because of the crisis ourselves, trust that the Lord is our Provider, who will surely see us through the storm.
Here are some recent & upcoming happenings you would like to take note of:
We praise God for His love and faithfulness as we celebrate CYM 7th Anniversary in January 2009. It is with great joy also as we welcome on board a greater pool of younger servant-leaders. Not forgetting also, our lovely young ones who join us from KIP to CYM, let’s welcome our newly addition of PEACE cg! It is indeed a great privilege for all to labour with Christ in His ministry. We look forward to what God will work through us and in us in this year of 2009!
Yet, at the same time, the time has come for Chai Hwa to prepare for his mission work in Japan, heeding God’s call for Him. We thank God for Chai Hwa’s heart, sweat, and tears. While we will miss him dearly, we pray for God’s blessing to be with Chai Hwa when he is labouring for the Kingdom of God in Japan.
Let us also ride on the lessons learnt from the Chapel Camp on digging deeper. May God continue to impress upon each of our hearts to dig deeper into His Word. It’s certainly important for us to dig daily, little by little, instead of attempting to do a big dig at the end of the year. Thus, let us continue to encourage and spur one another on toward the prize for which Christ has called us heavenward.
May this year be a great year of walking close with the Lord and gathering the harvest!
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”
1 Thessalonians 5:11
The CYM Advisors would like to take this opportunity to wish all a Blessed Chinese Lunar New Year!
From 26th to 29th June this year, I attended my second CYM leader’s retreat at Aloha Changi. However this is the first leader’s retreat that I attend after being a CG helper for the first half the year. Compared to the first leader’s retreat which I attended as someone without any experience, this 2nd leader’s retreat prove to be a valuable experience... ...
This is my first time joining Chrysalis Youth Ministry for UMAD 6. In this camp, I’ve learnt about my identity in Christ & I’ve been drawn closer to the Lord. In this camp, I’ve understood the true meaning of what it means to live a life worthy to be called a child of God, the kind of wonderful provision God provides for us, how to experience God and the price that Jesus paid for us.
The theme verse for the camp is Ephesians 2:13.This verse tells us that, because of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for us, we are NOWHERE. We are no longer condemned but brought near to God and given the right to be the children of God... ...
Stepping into a new phase of life, leaving behind the last 15 years of education and moving on into the working field, requires many adjustments from me. As the days go by, I felt that God has placed me in a field which I could use my spiritual gift and strengths well. Having said this, I’m still exploring if the social work field is the right one for me. Nonetheless, the first few days of work have been rather enriching for me, as I learn so much more that I never knew about the field.
"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ." - Ephesians 2:13
This year is the 6th year that we will be holding our youth camp, UMAD (yoUth Make A Difference), and the theme for this year is Identity. Indeed what is it that we (youths) base our worth and identity upon? In this world where "worth" is often defined by a certain kind of success or possession (be it grades, our CCA, money. friends approval), can we still place our trust in God and give everything that we have to him?
Definitely not on our own, because we are NOWHERE. Very often we are caught between the reality of life and the truth of life. But Ephesians 2:13 tells us that, because of Jesus Christ who died on the cross for us, we are NOWHERE. We are no longer condemned but are brought near to God and given the right to be the children of God.
In this year's UMAD, we aim to help our youths understand the true meaning of what it means to live a life worthy to be called a child of God, the kind of wonderful provision God provides for us, how to experience God and the price that Jesus paid for us, so that we can be brought near to God again.
As we all know by now, Cyclone Nargis ripped through the river delta city of Yangon, Myanmar for more than 10 hours -- taking more than 100,000 lives and leaving many more homeless and facing hunger and disease. In the past, the government of Myanmar has been reluctant to allow international assistance into the country at times of disaster. But now, in a reflection of the scale of the disaster and by God's intervention, the government has become more open to international assistance, which has allowed some Christian relief organizations such as World Vision to get involved.
As we pour in our donations to provide aid to the victims, some of us might start wondering "Where is God in all this?"
Good Friday never seemed anything important. Well yeah, it was the day Jesus died for us, when he washed away all our sins, but I never understood the significance of it, even after multiple repetitions of what it meant, until Stations of the Cross. At first, I was... ...
This month, the church calendar moves into the Season of Pentecost.
"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them." Acts 2:1-4
The day of Pentecost witnessed the realisation Christ's promise of the Holy Spirit as a deposit for our salvation until His second coming. Let us therefore take this time to contemplate on a few things which the Holy Spirit enables us to do:
i. A fulfilling relationship with God through the intercession of the Holy Spirit ii. Assurance of our salvation and Christ's return through the deposit of the Holy Spirit iii. Ability to minister and outreach through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit
Let us remember that it is a time of ministry, praise and communion with God as we seek to become more aware of our Father's omnipresence through the Holy Spirit.
So sorry, the devotionals will not arrive until May. In the meanwhile, pls visit and bookmark the Online Daily Bread Website, and visit the website daily for your devotions.
Greetings in the Agape love of God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ!

Greetings in the blessed name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
We are now into the 10th day of the Lunar New Year, and I trust that you had a meaningful time with your family & loved ones over the past week. As we step into the New Year, may I wish you God's richest blessings in Christ.
"Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy." Psalm 33:18
Ash Wednesday was last Wednesday (incidentally, Lunar New Year eve as well), marking the beginning of the Great Lenten season in the Christian liturgical calendar. Although the Lunar New Year is traditionally a time of feasting with family & loved ones, let us also remember that Lent is a solemn season of fasting, prayer and almsgiving in preparation of Easter, when the faithful rededicated themselves and when converts were instructed in the faith and prepared for baptism. By observing the forty days of Lent, the individual Christian imitates Jesus' withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days. Since Sunday is the day of the Resurrection, we skip over Sundays when we calculate the length of Lent. "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." Psalm 34:18

To all in CYM, Friends of CYM, Parents, Our partners,
Grace and peace be with you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
2008 is marked with new zeal for the Lord. As we see the ministry grow in numbers and strength, we can only give all glory and praise to our Lord who has blessed us so richly. We thank God for how He continues to work in our lives, and to bring many to know of His great Love. We are greatly touched by the lives that have changed and we look forward to how God will weave his plans through all of us continually.
In a nutshell, our four main areas of focus for CYM this year are, Discipleship, Outreach, Prayer and Structural.
With God's help, we will seek to move forward in the following four areas in the year 2008.
1. Discipleship
We will seek to build depth in the spiritual lives of our members by having the leaders intentionally become mentors to younger members. We will emphasize the importance of having daily devotions.
2. Outreach
We will continue to reach out to Geylang Methodist Schools through the Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade, as well as being involved in the Christian Ministry of the school. We also intend to reach out through formation of informal study groups to which we can invite non-Christian friends and interact with them. At the same time, we will encourage each member to reach out intentionally to people they know by praying for them and seeking opportunities to share the gospel with them, and following up on them. Finally, we will seek to equip members with the skills they need to share the gospel with their friends.
3. Prayer
We will seek to create a climate of prayer within CYM, beginning with the leaders themselves praying both personally and among themselves, and then praying with the youths they lead.
4. Structural
We want to make sure that the vision and passion of the original group of CYM'ers is passed on to the next generation. We will seek to create ownership of the ministry by the youths who will take up the leadership in future. At the same time, we wish to implement greater involvement by adult advisors as well as the parents of CYM members.
Here is a list of the cell groups and their leaders for the year 2008:

When I first saw the UMAD5 camp form a few months before the camp, I told myself, "No, I'm not going." The reason was that I did not really know anyone in church as I had joined only a few months ago. But as the camp date drew closer, I felt that God was urging me to go and everything was made convenient for me to go to UMAD5. Another reason for me to go was to support my sister, who was one of the leaders of the camp. Somehow I also became more excited as the camp drew nearer.
On 12 March the CYM had its annual outing organized by the Fellowship and Integration Team (FIT). While the lower secondary students made their way to the sunny shores of Sentosa, the upper secondary students took part in a grueling Amazing Race around Singapore ala TV's Amazing Race reality series.

We want to thank God for giving us the opportunity to organize an outdoor event for the lower sec youths and their leaders. We were glad it did not rain and dampen our spirits. Everyone commented that it was fun, including the great lunch, though some things did not go according to plan. Yet, we are grateful that we have the leaders to help us out. Thank you everyone for making it a memorable experience!
A ministry after God's own heart. 4 youth advisors, 10 youth leaders, 2 undershepherds and 5 invitees. 4 main themes. CYM's very own values.
Truth centered upon the Word of God. A time of seeking God's direction for the Youth Ministry as we started off with a reflection upon 2 Timothy 2:3-7 and 4:9-18. Why do we do what we do? To be a growing Christ-like community of vibrant youths that makes a difference. What actions should we take? Discipleship. Ev-angelism. Leadership. What does it require? The Soldier's single-minded for internal circulation only focus. The Athlete's integrity. The Farmer's labour of trust. The prize we seek? God's glory.
Our youth ministry's 3rd Anniversary celebrations were held on the first Sunday of the year, 2 January 2005. It was a day of joy, celebration and, of course, thanksgiving for what we now have.
I'm really thankful to be part of CYM because I am able to grow spiritually by learning more about the Word of God, know the importance of having a close walk with the Lord and also I am given opportunities to serve the Lord.

The Bible Challenge idea was surfaced when CYM purchased a number of Scripture Memory Verses packs for our youths with the objective of helping the youths develop a habit of memorising Bible verses for spiritual growth. To enable the youths to put their hard work into practice, we decided to have a Bible Challenge on 9 January 2005.
