On 31 Oct 2009, we met at the Ferry Terminal in Harbor Front to catch the 8.40am ferry to Batam Centre. As this was our first CG retreat to Batam, everyone was extremely excited and participated in the planning and executing of the retreat program. Several weeks prior to the retreat, our CG meticulously planned and prayed for God’s guidance as we plan our CG’s mission and activities for the coming year. Prior to the retreat, Rick and Liza made a special trip to check out the hotel and to ensure that all things are in place for the retreat.
Upon arrival, we checked into Panorama Regency Hotel and enjoyed an afternoon of fellowship cum shopping. Many things were much cheaper than in Singapore and most of us picked up a fair bit of good deals. We had lunch in the food court within the Nagoya Hill shopping mall before heading back to our hotel with loads of goodies including the famous Kueh Lapis (Multi layered cakes).
In the evening, we had buffet dinner at the hotel restaurant and celebrated Jeffrey’s birthday. Jeffrey turns fifty as he blew his candle and made the customary birthday wish. It was a wonderful surprise for him and we all had a great time feasting together. Immediately after dinner, we started our evening worship with singing followed by preparation of our hearts to pray, discuss, review and plan for our CG’s activities for next year. Meeting was chaired by Rick and the presence of God was with us throughout our brainstorming and sharing session. We finally confirmed our vision, mission and several action plans for our CG for the coming year and it was a wonderful time of sharing which lasted till late at night.
Our Mission:
“To do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with the Lord” Micah 6:8
Our Objective:
To pursue the Great Commission
The next day (1 Nov - Sunday) we gathered together for buffet breakfast in the Hotel. We were blessed with a wide selection of international buffet and everyone over ate. By 9am, we gathered for our morning worship. The worship program was carefully prepared by Jeffrey and we have a wonderful time of worship and prayer; followed by sharing by Rick. After service, it was time to head out for lunch and some last minute shopping before heading to the Ferry terminal to catch the 5:30pm ferry home.
All of us had a wonderful time together and every member was involved to make this a very successful and meaningful CG outing. While on the way back, we discussed and looked forward to our next CG retreat.
